DOK 2 Summary
About 1200 BCE old Empires fell and new kingdoms formed and we are going to talk about on of these kingdoms. The Israelites are a small group that believed in only one god. They were later called jews. The jews Influenced Christianity and islam. In Egypt where the Israelites were enslaved because of a drought in canaan, the promised land. One day the Pharaohs daughter found a baby in the river that a mother was forced to drop the baby boys in the river, but this baby was in a basket. She named the baby moses. He believed that god is telling him to help the jews escape to the promised land.God sent plagues and the pharaoh finally agreed to let then go. On there way to canaan god sent moses to mount sinai and to give the jews the ten commandment. It took the Israelites 40 years to get to the promised land, canaan. When Joshua died they made judges for leadership. They built walled towns to protect themselves and an alphabet and calendar based on canaanites ideas. Phoenicians were skilled sailors and traders. They carried goods to Greece, Spain, and Western Africa. Throughout trade they spread ideas, and one of them was their alphabet. They brought the ideas to Greeks and they passed it on to Romans.
