There are some Arabs who are Nomadic desert herders, giving water to animals and traveling to the oasis to oasis. Those people are called Bedouins. They lived in tents eating dried fruit and nuts because they NEVER eat meat because these animals are too valuable.
Other Arabs living in villages growing crops and raising animals near oases or mountain valleys. Some were also traveling merchants, selling goods across the desert. To protect themselves from bedouins, so they traveled in groups called Caravans. By 500's Arabian merchants handled most trade between India and the Mediterranean sea. As they grew, some founded towns along trade routes in Arabia. A newly founded town/city called Mecca soon became the largest. richest, and the holiest city of them all. This is because it was a crossroad for merchants, and in the middle of Mecca is the Kaaba. People believed that inside the Large square building Kaaba is a gift from god. 2) What was Muhammad's message?
In around 570, a man called Muhammad was born in mecca. He was an orphan and raised by his uncle. He first job was a caravan leader and soon became a successful merchant. He later was married, had children, and despite his successful life, he was Unhappy. He felt that wealthy leaders should return to the old ways. He wants people to honor their families, be fair in business, and to help the unfortunate. In around 610, Muhammad was visited by Angel Gabriel, and Angel Gabriel told him the preach, Islam. Islam means,"Surrender to the will of Allah," and Allah means,"God." After this encounter with the angel, he told others in Mecca to destroy false gods and to worship Allah. Muhammad preached that everyone is equal and that the rich should share their goods. He also said that leading a good life is MORE IMPORTANT than being Wealthy/rich. When Judgment day came he said that Allah will reward the good and punish the evil.
3) Why was Islam not liked at first?
At first, Muhammad's message was believed by only friends and family, but slowly over time, he convinced people that Allah was the ONE TRUE God. His message reaches and applied to the poor, but angered wealthy people and other Religious leaders because they think that he was trying to take their power. So the wealthy people treated Muhammad's followers like there were living in Hell. They beat, tortured Muslims. Making them not buy food and more. So in 622, Muhammad and followers left Mecca moving north to a town called Yathrib, later called medina. This journey leaving mecca was called the Hijrah. In 622, Muslims made a new calendar. Yathrib welcomed Muhammad and the Muslims to their city. Muhammad renamed the city the Medina meaning, "The city of the Prophet."
4) What does Islam teach?
The religions such as Islam, Judaism, and Christianity have some beliefs in common. They all believe in the one TRUE GOD. Muslims believe that one God holds all the power, created the universe, and determines what is right and wrong. People were expected to follow God's law to be blessed in the afterlife. All religions believe that God spoke through people Prophets. For Muslims, early prophets were Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad. But in Christianity Jesus was more than a prophet, but a son of God. In Islam was seen as a prophet and very good person.
5) What is the Quran?
The Quran, or Holy Book of Islam, was the Message that Muhammad received from Angel Gabrial. Muslims strive to follow the Quran because they believe that this was God's word. The Quran tells them how to live, that to be honest and treat other fairly. Also to Honor your parents, show kindness to others, give to the poor. The Quran forbidden to Murder, lie, and stealing. There are more rules for daily life. Such as you should not eat pork, drink liquor, gamble, or smoke. And There are more rules about marriage, divorce, family life, property rights, and Business practice. In conclusion there are a LOT of rules regarding everything.
6) What are the 5 Pillars of Islam + Sunna?
Muslims are expected to fulfill FIVE pillar of faith. The first one is that there is no god but Allah (Belief). The second one is that one must prayer 5 times a day towards mecca or the east (Prayer). The third one is that one should give to the poor (Alms). The fourth one is that one should not eat from dawn toward duck during the month of Ramadan (Fasting). The fifth and final one is that one should travel to Mecca once in there life (Haij).
Scholars of Islam created a new law code that explains how Society should be ran. This code is a combination of the Quran and Sunna. The sunna is customs based on Muhammad's words and deeds.
